The 20 Best Albums of 2017 (Part 1/2)

Personally, 2017 was an amazing year full of beautiful, complicated, hard, surprising, and thrilling moments that have changed me for life. I will never forget this year, because I had so many moments that I will appreciate until I die. On the other hand, musically it was also an amazing year, because the albums that you will find in the following list have songs that will form part of my life.
I hope you have enjoyed this year for the music and all the good moments that you have had.
Without any more preambles, these are the 20 best albums of 2017 (part one of two) according Jus' Sayingg (the list was created according the date of release from the album).

1. Ed Sheeran - ÷ (divide)

Album cover
"Divide" was released on March 3rd 2017, and since that date this album has successfully be on top of the best of 2017. Frankly, this album is part of several lists of this kind, not because of its success in sales, but because it's full of beautiful and unforgettable songs. Ed Sheeran has a great facility to transforming simple experiences into a songs; however, his speciality are the songs about love. We have to admit that "Divide" has epic love songs. If I should have to select the best tracks from it, "Shape of You" and "Perfect" would be the first of the list.

2. Charli XCX - Number 1 Angel

Mixtape cover
"I just got bored and made a load of songs, so I decided to put them out." Said Charli XCX before releasing this amazing mixtape (independently released album) on March 10th 2017. Personally, I consider Charli as one of the most creative and talented artist of this generation and this mixtape is a great example of it. Each song is so has an amazing production and her talent as songwriter is pretty notorious.  "Number 1 Angel" is full of bangers; such as, "Dreamer" (featuring Starrah and Raye), "3AM (Pull Up)" (featuring MØ), "Emotional", and "Babygirl" (featuring Uffie), just to metion some of them.

3. Tinie Tempah - Youth

Album cover

The third studio album by the British rapper Tinie Tempah was released on April 14th 2017. This album has 17 amazing tracks, where Tinie "wanted to show people a level of excellence… that there is magic within us.” The truth is that he really showed us his magic; however, he asked the help of other artists, because "Youth" has several great collaborations with different artist and each one is fire! His style is pretty original and the beat from the whole album is perfect; personally, I consider it as one of the best hip hop albums of 2017. The best songs are "Not for the Radio" (featuring MNEK), "Text from Your Ex" (featuring Tinashe) and "Girls Like" (featuring Zara Larsson).

4. Kendrick Lamar - DAMN.

Album cover
"It’s about just being an individual and loving everything you do. There was no pressure from no label or nobody." Said Kendrick in an interview about his fourth studio album "DAMN." released on April 14th 2017. What he did with this album is something that will serve as a reference for several rappers, because we cannot deny that the messages and style from this album is unique and beyond amazing. It's full of anthems and empowering tracks; such as, "DNA", "LOYALTY", and the great "HUMBLE." Something that was also notorious in it, is that the album has a more "commercial sound" making it "radio friendly."

5. Gorillaz - Humanz

Album cover

"I see the “z” in Humanz as referring to robots, AI, programming, brainwashing, indoctrination. And it’s a question to us: are we human or are we humanz? " Explained Jamie Hewlett in an interview about this album released on April 28th 2017. This is another example of powerful bands with powerful collaborations, because "Humanz" has several of them with other artists and all of them work so good. As Jamie explained, this album has robotic beats and different interludes that serve to introduce us into their "virtual" world. I noticed that in this album they explored new sounds without loosing their unique style, and that makes it even better! My favorite tracks were "Saturnz Barz" (featuring Popcaan), "Submission" (featuring Danny Brown and Kelela) and "Andromeda" (featuring D.R.A.M.).

6. Paramore - After Laughter

Album cover
"You can run on the fumes of being a teenager for as long as you want, but eventually life hits you real hard." Said the lead singer of the band Hayley and this comment sums up the perfectly the whole album. "After Laughter" is their fourth album and it was released on May 12th 2017. It has a solid concept and it is full of memoreable lyrics blended with 80s vibes. Something that I really admire about Paramore's music is that, they can cover sad songs with "happy rhythms," it's like you can dance while crying of realizing that life's is really hard. I think that we can relate with several of the songs from the album; such as, "Told You So," "Fake Happy" and the amazing "Hard Times."

7. Dua Lipa - Dua Lipa

Album cover

"I want people to see a piece of me. I want people to have an insight into everything that’s happened over the last few years while I was writing the album and actually really get to know me." Said Dua Lipa, one of the most successful new artists of 2017. Her self-titled debut album was released on June 2nd 2017, and since that date she has rising to the point that she has been named the queen of Spotify 2017. Since we heard her hit "Hotter Than Hell", we knew that she was going to be a success and when she released this album, she let us know that Dua Lipa is here to stay! Her powerful voice, her charm, and catchy songs made "Dua Lipa" one of the best albums (and debuts) of 2017.

8. Beth Ditto - Fake Sugar

Album cover

"Sometimes it's just that simple. It made me think of glitter. I really like glitter." Said Beth Ditto about her debut solo album "Fake Sugar" released on June 16th 2017. Some of you may remember her, because she was the lead singer of the band Gossip; however, the band is over and Beth decided to create a new empire. Personally, Beth Ditto has an amazing voice and the music style that she decided to mixed in "Fake Sugar" goes perfectly with her. Her debut album has a big range of music genres incorporated in one album; such as, Southern rock, soul, glam-pop, r&b, and a little bit of dance-pop. The best tracks from it are "Fire," "In and Out," "Fake Sugar," "Go Baby Go," and "Lover."

9. Lorde - Melodrama

Album cover

“a record about being alone… The good parts and the bad parts.” Is what Lorde wanted to reflect in her second album "Melodrama" released on June 16th 2017. "Melodrama" has been on repeat since its release, because of its amazing beats and dramatic lyrics. Lorde has grown a lot musically and this album reflects it. Through 11 tracks, the New Zealand singer shows us what she wrote in solitude, with intelligent verses and dope beats, it's like the perfect combo! It's almost impossible to chose the best tracks on it, because each one is just better that the previous; however, "Green Light", "Sober", "Homemade Dynamite", "Liability", and "Perfect Places" as the most powerful songs on the album.

10. Imagine Dragons - Evolve

Album cover
"So this record, to me, is really a celebration in a lot of ways. It’s an evolution of mind and sonics." Explained the lead singer of the band Dan Reynolds about their third album "Evolve", released on June 23rd 2017. I couldn't be more agree with the title of this album, it's totally an evolution for the band. We can't deny the amazing bops that "Evolve" has.Lyrically, it's not "depressing" and it's more lighter, without losing their unique music style. The whole album is great, but if I had to chose the best tracks "I Don't Know Why" and "Believer" would be on the top of my list.
